The Sieve and the Sand: Part 2
Montag spends time reading his books he often feels reminded of Clarisse. The hound comes to the door and scratches at the door and eventually leaves. Mildred tells Montag to get rid of his books and Montag says those who seek to learn are quieted like Clarisse and the old woman and doesn't listen. Montag then leaves to see Faber (former English professor)about getting a copy made of the bible before he turns the original copy over to Beatty. On the way to Faber's on the subway he wonders if he will regain sense of purpose as he recalls the frustration he felt as a child when he attempted the impossible task of filling a sieve with sand and finds himself not able to retain what he reads when he attempted to read the bible. Him having no vocabulary as the sieve he can't understand the book like the sieve is unable to retain sand. Montag and Faber hatch a plan to bring down the system by planting books in fireman houses Faber retreats from the idea and says it wouldn't work. Montag the starts to threaten Faber if he doesn't go through with getting a copy he will start ripping pages out of the bible. He suggests they should wait for the impending war to implode society so that they may start anew. Montag begs and eventually Faber agrees to get the book copied for him from his friend in St. Louis who used to work for a printing press Faber gives Montag a radio (little green bullet)to help him communicate on how to act him being nervous about the books.
