Ray Douglas Bradbury was born in Waukegan, Illinois, on August 22, 1920.
He was the third son of Leonard Spaulding Bradbury and Esther Marie Moberg Bradbury. Between 1926 and 1933, the Bradbury family moved back and forth between Waukegan and Tucson, Arizona. In 1931Ray started creating his own stories on butcher paper. in 1934 Ray and his family moved to Los Angeles, California, he attended a local high school where he stayed active in the drama club, he planned to be a actor. Soon though two of his teachers recognized his talent as a writer and encouraged him to be one. over 60 years his stories have been impacted and impressed on by these two ladies. AS high school continued he was determined to be a writer. he joined the Los Angeles science fiction league. Meanwhile at school he improved his grades and joined the poetry club. This was just the basis for his writing career, soon after high school he wrote several articles in many magazines. That was until in 1942 Bradbury got his break and wrote and published "the Lake." Soon after in 1945 his short story "The Big Black and White Game" was elected for Best American Short Stories. In 1946 he met his wife Maggie and they wed on September 27, 1947. They had four daughters together. One of his bestsellers "Fahrenheit 451" (the rate at which paper burns) was released in 1953. Ray is now 91 years old.
